It began in a closet.
Our founder, Alexis Rodriguez, spent years rebuilding her life on her knees in the small private space of her own home. There, the Lord led her to an unlikely object — her late father’s wooden shoeshine box.
Twice the closet racks came down. Twice the shoebox fell to the same spot. The second time, she pulled it close, rested her head on its foot plate, and asked what God was revealing. He answered.
“Through your father’s shoebox you will find Me. Go, My children, and build altars.”
The Lord led her to her assignment.
Altarah joins the word altar with the Hebrew feminine ending “ah” — the ending carried by the women of scripture: Deborah, Hannah, Sarah, Rebekah. It is a name for the altar, and for the women who kneel at it.
